Kaiser Kidney Transplant Program Injuries
Kaiser Permanente suspended its kidney transplant program on Friday, a day after the health maintenance organization was sued for bungling cases that led some patients to grow seriously ill and, in one case, die. We are currently reviewing cases on behalf of members who have experienced difficulty, injury or loss by reason of Kaiser’s negligence in the operation of its transplant program.

A widow of a patient filed a wrongful death action and two patients filed personal injury suits Thursday in Alameda County Superior Court. |
The actions are the first in what will likely be a series of suits stemming from Kaisers operation of its San Francisco kidney transplant program, which is under federal and state investigations.
The problems with the program arose when Kaiser ordered Northern California kidney patients to transfer from University of California hospitals to its new transplant center in 2004, leading to delays blamed on botched paperwork and administrative errors.
A Kaiser official apologized this week and offered to let patients transfer to UC hospitals.
